Martin Shaw leads a star-studded cast in Gore Vidal’s production of The Best Man. First premiering on Broadway in 1960, it finally came to the UK as part of a tour last year and now plays a limited 12-week season at the Playhouse Theatre.
Directed by Simon Evans, The Best Man pits Shaw against Jeff Fahey – two party political candidates gunning for the presidential nomination. With the finish line in sight, only the approval of an ex-President stands in their way. Who is prepared to do what it takes to become The Best Man, and what are they prepared to give up getting there?
Shaw and Fahey are joined by Olivier Award winner Maureen Lipman, Jack Shepherd, Honeysuckle Weeks and Glynis Barber, with set and costume design by Michael Taylor, lighting design by Chris Davey and composition and sound design by Ed Lewis.
